Hey there.
I’m Steven Porfiri.
I write and make things like what you just saw.
Whether it’s social media copy, longform SEO content, a silly joke or an experimental project, I’ve got the words that’ll get eyes on you. Think you might be interested in my words?
Great news, I’m currently available for work involving words, sentences, even phrases!
<—This is me!
(Steven Porfiri)
My formal education consists of:
One (1) Bachelor of Arts in Screenwriting from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
One (1) Minor in Italian Studies also from Chapman University.
My informal education is mostly cartoons from the 2000s and stuff I’ve picked up while working on those fine projects you saw earlier.
Here are some links to my longer-form content and personal projects. I write opinion pieces and satire on TV, gaming, and film, plus assorted fiction pieces about places and human connections. Sometimes they’re even funny!
The nerdier sister site of The Hard Times, I pitch and write satirical articles about video games, the gaming industry, and other nerdular nerdtivitites.
An indie webmag started by some friends in college, Merry-Go-Round prides itself as an independent culture magazine that also functions as a launching pad for younger writers to find their voice and dispense their spiciest takes on film, TV, music, and video games. Having written for them since they operated out of an apartment in Santa Ana, I technically qualify as a Senior Writer.
Writing project where I committed to writing a letter every day for a year. These letters are between various characters made up the day of writing and the rest of them are pretty much similarly stream-of-consciousness in their composition. Really an exercise in creating every day for an extended period of time and trying to be funny when I didn’t always feel like it.
A collection of short stories inspired by growing up in California’s Central Valley and Bakersfield. I wanted to experiment with writing travelogues in a magically realistic style, kind of like if Anthony Bourdain visited a place from a Gabriel Garcia Marquez story.
